Contents & Objectives: As part of the Profile of Learning Standards, Students need to acquire knowledge in the area listed below demonstrate its application through a decision-making process.
Self-Knowledge & Mental Health: We focus on the areas of mental, social and physical health. We will also discuss self-esteem, time management, and goal setting. We will also be doing research on mental health disorders such as suicide, depression, and schizophrenia.
Nutrition: Emphasis in this unit includes knowledge of the basic nutrient groups but more importantly, how do our nutritional choices affect our health. We have a graduation standard in this unit.
Drugs, Alcohol and Tobacco: We will learn how drugs, alcohol and tobacco affect our daily life. Also we will focus on making good decision-making and peer pressure and how important that plays a role in our decisions.
Human Sexuality: This is the last unit of the trimester. We will cover topics of body function, dating, STDS and AIDS and much more. Look for more information later on in the trimester.
Materials: Teen Health textbooks, Current Health Magazines, videotapes, and guest speakers from the American Red Cross, and the Family Tree Clinic.
Evaluation: Students will be graded, attitude, participation, written assignments, worksheets, tests and presentations and projects in the classroom.
90-100% = A
80-89% = B
70-79% = C
60-69% = D
***Graduation Standards will be graded out of 50 points and 1,2,3,4.
Attendance: Students are expected to make up all missing assignments. LATE WORK: Will be accepted to ONE WEEK for half credit, after that it turns into a zero.
Behavior: Students are expected to listen when other people are speaking, respect others, participate actively in class and work cooperatively when necessary.
