Welcome to Spanish One, a three-trimester curriculum for 2005-06.

Course syllabus which centers on our picture lessons and accompanying CD.
(trimester I) ( As the weeks progress, students will receive picture lessons for each track)
 
1. INTRODUCTION   (student, go over this with your parent !)

2.The verb "SER"(to be) + descriptive adjectives.( ¿ Cómo es?) (week 1+2..oral test )
3.Colors that can be used to describe ( ¿De qué color es?) (week 3 ..oral  eval.)
4. First vocabulary of common things. ( ¿ Qué es esto?) (week 3+ 4…oral evaluation)

5. Statements using "TENER"( to have) ( ¿ Qué tiene Carlos?) ( week  5… eval.)

6. TENER EXPRESSIONS"  ( ¿ Qué tiene? / ¿ Cuántos años tiene?) (week 6… test)

7. The verb "QUERER"(to want) with statements ( ¿ Qué quiere Mónica? y ¿por qué)
8.  Second  vocabulary of common things. ( ¿ Cómo se llama?  )  (weeks 8+9.. eval.)
9.  Statements with "HAY" ( ¿ Qué hay en el dibujo?) ( week 10+ 11 oral/written eval.)


    STUDENTS WILL FINALIZE TRIMESTER ONE with REVIEW  and enrichment activities.
   They are expected to be proficient in using the vocabularies from tracks 2-9, both orally and in written form. Other contents, as contained in subsequent lessons, may be used  to enrich these activities ( numbers, location words, action verbs etc.) At this stage students will also be demonstrating proficiency in  using present tense conjugations  with : SER-TENER-QUERER-ESTAR- LLAMARSE- IR- DECIR –SABER - HABLAR-VIVIR-COMER  and similar verbs)
. They should be familiar with present tense changes for increasing numbers of commonly used verbs. To enhance this syllabus, we will sing songs, explore the internet as relates to Spanish, share experiences etc.  Students will be accountable for these activities as they get presented during the year.


(Trimester 2 ) students will continue review for mastery of tracks 2-9 in addition to:

  ( the following tracks may be used as reference as needed or desired)

Track 10 : numbers   (Week one + 2,  second trimester….+ oral  evaluation)

11. Telling the time  (¿ Qué hora es? ¿ A qué hora…?)  (week 2 oral eval.)

12.  First formal pronunciation practice  ( ¿  Cómo se pronuncia..?)  …week 3.. eval.

13. Second pronunciation exercises     (week  4) (¿ Cómo se dice(pronuncia..?
)
14.  The Spanish Alphabet ( ¿  Cómo se escribe ...?)  (week 5, tri 2 )

15.  The verb"ESTAR"(to be) to locate( ¿ Dónde está) ,+ for feelings (¿Cómo está?)
16.  Fourteen Words that locate ( ¿ Dónde está  la pelota ? )

17.  Statements that use "IR"(to go)   (¿ Adónde va Pedro?¿ Qué va a hacer ?

18. Statements that use "SABER"(to know). (¿Qué sabe el chico ?)
19. Spanish American countries ( ¿ Dónde queda Colombia ?)

20. Spanish American capitals ( ¿ Cuál es la capital de Honduras?)

21. Spanish nacionalities ( ¿ Quienes son las personas de Venezuela?

22. Reading about "LA FAMILIA"

23. Vocabulario de la"LA FAMILIA" ( ¿ Quién es el abuelo de Tomás ?)


(Trimester 3 )

Students will demonstrate oral and written proficiency with these and prior lesson contents.”
24. Track 24: Tú commands    ( Vete a casa, tú)

25. Twenty  key "tú" questions ( ¿ Dónde vives tú? Etc.)

26 Twenty-eight action statements   ( ¿ Qué está hacienda María?)


The above tracks are essential for a basic knowledge of simple Spanish. Please note the key questions that correspond to each lesson. Tracks 2-26 are considered bottom line needs for the coursework and should be the center of student focus. Study your CD as homework throughout the year or until you can demonstrate mastery for all contents.

Note: In addition to these contents. we will utilize resources contained in the adopted text EN ESPAÑOL. We will learn to write as we complete picture worksheets and create written descriptions.
