World Geography
Course work:

1. Textbook-a chapter section every night except an occassional Friday.  Students will work on the section usually numbers 1 through the critical thinking.  It is due the next day. All textbook assignments are to be done in a spiral notebook.  Notebooks will be collected at the beginning of the hour and handed back the next day.  The heading of the assignment page should read as follows:

Example: December 6, 2004; Chapter 1, p. 13 1-5

2.  Vocabulary is given every week.

3.  Map work-develop a mental map of the world and to understand where one is in relationship to the rest of the world  and interdependence.

4.  Immigrant project

5.  Unit or chapter tests (will depend on what class chooses).

Grades:

Grades are based on a total point system using the following grading scale:

90-100 = A

80-89 = B

70-79 = C

60-69 = D

61 under = N

Make-up work:

It is the responsibility of the student to get his/her work when absent.

*assignments/projects due first day back in class.

*two days to hand in assignments from day student was absent (if absent Wednesday, then assignments from Wednesday would be due on Friday).

*all quizes/tests need to be made-up first day back in class.

Retakes:

*One retake on vocabulary/quiz after school only.

*One retake on map tests after school only.

*No retakes on unit/chapter tests.  It is open note.

Extra Credit:

*vocabulary definitions-5 points (only if handed in on time)

*write a summary/reflection on a newspaper article concerning countries in the region that we are studying-10 points for every three summaries/reflection.

Materials:

2 Spiral notebooks to do all work.

1 Pack of 24 color pencils or markers only, no crayons

Classroom expectations:

BE RESPECTFUL!

BE PROMPT!

BE PREPARE!

NO FOOD, DRINK, CANDY AT ALL TIMES!

Detention will also be given for the following infractions:

     Late to class without proper excuse.

     Not in proper seat when bell rings at start of class.

     Not having proper materials to class-textbook, pen, pencil, paper, etc.

PROGRESS REPORTS WILL BE GIVEN OUT EVERY MONDAY.  PLEASE ASK YOUR CHILD.
