Murray READS!

Each student is expected to read at least 25 books during this school year.  At Murray JHS we keep track of the books read in their daily planner, in the 4th column of the pass page. Students should write the title of the book, the author and the date the book was recorded.  They are then asked to do a "book conference" with one of their teachers or with their parents/guardians.  After they have read a book, let them tell you about it.  Or ask them questions such as:

  • What does the title mean?
  • Did you like this book?  Why or why not?
  • What did you learn from reading this book?
  • Would you recommend this book to someone else?
  • What would you tell them to make them want to read the book?
  • What part of the story did you find the most interesting?
  • Tell me about the main character.  What happens to this person in the story?

Parents, you don't need to ask all  of these questions. One or two would be enough.  When you are finished with the book conference please sign the student planner.  Up to 10 book conferences may be done at home.
