What Families can do to Encourage Reading!
- Encourage your kids to reach their goals of reading 25 books this year, and celebrate each book completed.
- Have a variety of reading materials available. Use the library, pick up books at garage sales, second-hand stores, and exchange books with friends and neighbors.
- Get everyone reading.
- Help your children select books that are challenging, but will not frustrate them.
- Listen to your child read.
- When your child develops a new interest, find books on that topic.
- Make reading aloud a part of your family routine.
- Have newspapers around the house.
- Limit TV viewing time.
If reading is difficult for you, set a good example and seek help to become a better reader. Saint Paul Public Schools can help you. Call 651-290-4822 for information.
