Reading for everyone

What Families can do to Encourage Reading!

        • Encourage your kids to reach their goals of reading 25 books this year, and celebrate each book completed.
        • Have a variety of reading materials available.  Use the library, pick up books at garage sales, second-hand stores, and exchange books with friends and neighbors.
  • Get everyone reading.
  • Help your children select books that are challenging, but will not frustrate them.
  • Listen to your child read.
  • When your child develops a new interest, find books on that topic.
  • Make reading aloud a part of your family routine.
  • Have newspapers around the house.
  • Limit TV viewing time.

If reading is difficult for you, set a good example and seek help to become a better reader.  Saint Paul Public Schools can help you.  Call 651-290-4822 for information.
