| New this winter, the Murray Parent Association (MPA) board created a grant giving program. This process was developed to provided student enrichment and school wide support to teachers and staff. The grants will add resources to teachers and staff above and beyond what is made available to them through the school budget. The MPA raised the funds throughout the year from our fundraising efforts - Barnes & Noble, spirit wear sales, family donations and the calendar fundraiser.
The board reviewed 19 grant applications for a total amount requested of $9,000. The MPA board was pleased to award $3,000. in grant money this year to the following groups.
- Jazz Band Master Classes $300.00 –advisor Vicci Johnson
- Murray French Club $350.00 Transportation support to language camp. advisor-Yvonne Merchant
- Murray Spanish Club $350.00 Transportation support to language camp. advisor-Jean Manrique
- School wide support $228.39 Technology tool-AlphaSmart Neo. –advisor Regina Wehner, Councelor
- English As A Second Language Program $450.00 text books for a year-long thematic study –teacher Ann Hebble
- Special Education Department $210.00 Technology tool for writing assignments. –teacher Eileen Slagle
- Wolf Ridge Scholarship Account $400.00 Student community service program -advisor Carrie Bittner
- Drama Club $300.00 Support for spring production –advisor Lisa Schibel
- Music Department $300.00 Three Yamaha piano keyboard –teacher Dr. Lamb
- School Counselors- Student school supply account $150.00 Target -Jane Treat & Regina Wehner
It is the hope of the MPA board to continue this grant program for years to come. Thank you to all of our parents, neighbors and teachers who supported our fundraising efforts this year so we can provide grants to Murray Junior High.
