Short Story Unit – focus on basic literary terms and plot line: exposition, rising action, climax, resolution; pulling meaning from text

Me Portfolio – autobiographical writing in various forms both written and visual, focus on writing process

Media Literacy – Focus on informed consumerism; text: Made You Look

Novel – Fiction: one in class and one out of class with in-class presentation

Poetry portfolio – focus on analysis, original writing, pattern writing, metaphor, simile

***1st trimester of seventh grade is untracked with a strong study skills emphasis; all English core classes after that are divided into regular or challenge level courses.

Novel/Drama – nonfiction or realistic fiction, focus on sarcasm, irony, parody, satire, mood, tone; one in class and one out of class with an in-class presentation
